After the war, Cubism didn't disappear — it matured. The fractured planes and multiple perspectives that Picasso and Braque had pioneered in the 1910s found new expression in the postwar years, applied to new subjects with a looser, more expressive hand. The geometry remained, but the mood shifted: less analytical, more emotional.

This Elliott Best original applies that postwar Cubist sensibility to a portrait of a Husky — one of the most visually striking of all dogs, with its ice-blue eyes, its wolf-like bearing, and its extraordinary coat. The fractured planes break the face into its component parts and reassemble them into something that captures not just what a Husky looks like, but what it feels like to be looked at by one.

A serious piece of art about a very good dog.
