Jules Chéret

Jules Chéret (1836–1932) invented the modern poster. Working in Paris during the Belle Époque, he transformed lithographic printing into a fine art form — filling the streets of the city with joyful, luminous images of dancers, performers, and revellers that captured the spirit of an era. He is widely regarded as the father of the modern advertising poster, and his influence on Art Nouveau and graphic design cannot be overstated. This collection brings together Elliott Best's digitally remastered editions of Chéret's most celebrated works — from the Moulin Rouge and Folies Bergère to his iconic theatre and product posters.
