"The Crowd Inn, Sauble Beach, Ontario."
The Crowd Inn was the only restaurant directly on the beach at Sauble Beach — right there on the sand, while Lake Huron stretches out in front of you. I spent my summers working there, and I can still tell you exactly what it smelled like on a hot July afternoon.
Famous for their burgers, foot-long hotdogs, milkshakes, and cold lemonade — the kind of lemonade that only tastes right when you're sunburned and sandy and the lake is right there. The trick was eating fast. The seagulls knew the menu as well as we did, and they had no manners about it.
This image of a gal holding a tray of Crowd Inn food, with the tagline, 'The Beach's Best since 1948,' part of the Elliott Best original photography collection — a personal record of places that hold special memories for me, printed on archival stock ready when you want to some nostalgia.
