Art restored. Art created. Art that lasts.
Elliott Best is a Canadian fine art studio with a dual practice: we digitally restore some of history's greatest paintings to the vitality of the day they were made, and we create original works in the traditions of the masters we admire. Everything we produce is printed on premium fine-art and archival museum stock, and made to last in the spaces where art belongs.
The Restoration Practice
Some of the world's most significant paintings have faded, darkened, and lost their original vitality over centuries of light, age, and neglect. We bring them back.
Our restoration process begins with archival research — studying the artist's documented techniques, the materials available to them in their era, and the historical context in which the work was made. We draw on period references, museum records, and scholarly literature to understand what the painting looked like the day it was unveiled. Then, working from the highest-resolution source scans available, we restore colour, recover fine detail, and recalibrate tonal values against period pigment profiles.
Generative AI plays a meaningful role in our research — helping us understand media decomposition rates, historical references, and artistic techniques, some more than a thousand years old. But every restoration decision is made by hand, guided by human judgment and scholarly context. The result is a print that honours the original artist's intent, as close to the day it was made as modern craft allows.
Our restored works span Canaletto's luminous Venetian vedute, the Belle Époque poster art of Jules Chéret, the portraiture of Holbein and Klimt, and the great Flemish tapestry tradition.
Elliott Best Studio Originals
Alongside our restoration work, the Elliott Best studio creates original paintings — new works that draw on the deep traditions of Western art to make something entirely our own.
These are not reproductions. They are original compositions: portraits in the school of Holbein and Memling, landscapes in the tradition of Canada's Group of Seven, still lifes that honour the quiet intensity of the Dutch masters, and figurative works that place contemporary subjects within the language of classical painting. Each piece is researched, composed, and executed with the same rigour we bring to our restoration work.
From the Mitford sisters rendered in post-war realism, to a baboon painted with all the gravity of a Renaissance sitter — Elliott Best Originals are works that belong to now, made in the language of then.
Our Canada
Elliott Best is a proudly Canadian studio. Our Canada collection is an ongoing love letter to this country — studio originals in the tradition of the Group of Seven, vintage-style prints celebrating the grand railway hotels from Halifax to Victoria, contemporary works that speak to who we are right now, and wildlife that reminds us what we share this land with.
For Canadians who want their walls to mean something. And for anyone, anywhere, who has ever felt the pull of this place.
