Boudica, Westminster — London Postcard Series, Original Photography

She's Been Standing There Since 1902. I Photographed Her in 2012.

I took this photograph on the Embankment side of Westminster Bridge, just across from the Houses of Parliament. Boudica — warrior queen of the Iceni, scourge of Roman Britain — charges forward in bronze, her daughters beside her, the Thames at her back. She has been there for over a century, and she still looks like she means it.

There's something I love about this shot: the scale of her against the London sky, the drama of the chariot, the way she holds her ground in the middle of one of the busiest corners of the city. She doesn't care about the traffic.

This image is part of my London Postcards series — a collection of photographs I made during a visit to London in 2012, capturing the moments and monuments that stayed with me.
