The Elliott Best Quality Process: Read what makes our artwork extraordinary.

Art Restored. Beauty Preserved. Printed to Last.

Every print in the Elliott Best collection begins with a question: what did this work look like the day it was made? Our answer is a rigorous, research-led process that combines archival scholarship, advanced digital restoration, and museum-grade production — so that what arrives at your door is as close to the original artist's vision as modern craft allows.

01 — Research & Archival Analysis

Before any restoration begins, we go to the source.

We study the artist's biography, their documented techniques, and the materials available to them in their era. We consult museum records, period catalogues, and scholarly literature to understand the original work in its historical context — the pigments used, the support medium, the lighting conditions under which it was created, and the cultural moment it was born into.

This research phase is not a formality. It is the foundation on which every restoration decision rests. A Chéret lithograph demands different treatment than a Canaletto oil. A Japanese woodblock print carries different tonal logic than a French Impressionist canvas. We treat each work as its own discipline.

02 — Digital Restoration

With research in hand, we begin the restoration itself.

Working from the highest-resolution source scans available — drawn from institutional archives, museum collections, and rare print repositories — we assess each image for the damage that time inflicts: foxing, fading, cracking, colour shift, paper yellowing, and loss of fine detail.

Our restoration process is methodical and non-destructive. We work in layers, preserving the original image data while carefully correcting for age-related degradation. Tonal values are recalibrated against period references. Colour is restored to match documented pigment profiles, not simply brightened. Fine linework and texture are recovered, not invented.

The goal is fidelity — not enhancement. We are restorers, not reimaginers.

03 — AI-Assisted Technique Analysis

Generative AI has become a meaningful part of our research and restoration workflow — used with precision, not as a shortcut.

We use AI tools to deepen our understanding of an artist's documented techniques: the brushwork characteristic of their period, the media they favoured, the decomposition rates of the pigments they used, and the contemporary references that shaped their visual language. AI helps us ask better questions of the historical record and cross-reference findings at a scale that would otherwise take months.

Critically, AI informs our decisions — it does not make them. Every restoration choice is reviewed and applied by hand, guided by human judgment and scholarly context. The result is a restoration that is both historically grounded and visually precise.

04 — Print Quality Standards

A restoration is only as good as the print that carries it.

Every Elliott Best print is produced to exacting standards:

  • Colour accuracy — We use calibrated, wide-gamut printing to reproduce the full tonal range of the restored image, with colour profiles matched to the original work's documented palette.
  • Resolution — All files are prepared at print-ready resolution for each size, ensuring crisp detail from edge to edge — whether you choose our Small 11×14in or our Gallery 24×36in format.
  • Paper & substrate — Our standard prints are produced on premium fine-art stock with archival-grade inks rated for longevity. Elliott Best Originals are printed on premium archival museum stock, the same quality used in institutional reproduction programs.
  • Consistency — Every order is produced to the same specification. There is no "good enough" run.

05 — Framing & Presentation

For collectors who want their print ready to hang, we work with a curated network of premium framing partners who share our commitment to quality and presentation.

Our framing partners offer a range of frame styles and finishes selected to complement the Elliott Best aesthetic: clean, considered, and built to last. Each framed piece is assembled with archival-quality materials to protect your print for decades.

For framing enquiries — including unusual sizes, custom finishes, or specific conservation needs — please contact us directly by email. We are happy to advise.

The Standard We Hold Ourselves To

We believe that great art deserves to be seen as it was meant to be seen. Not faded. Not compromised. Not approximate.

Every decision in our process — from the first archival search to the final print inspection — is made in service of that belief. When you bring an Elliott Best print into your home, you are receiving the result of genuine scholarship, careful craft, and an uncompromising standard of quality.

That is the Elliott Best promise.
